¿Que es el cannabis o marihuana?

  El Cannabis sativa (nombre científico de la planta de la marihuana) está compuesto por más de 400 sustancias químicas, de las que unas 60 son cannabinoides. Entre ellas se encuentra el delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), que es el principio activo del arbusto y, por lo tanto, el principal causante de sus efectos. Cuando estos componentes entran en el organismo “actúan sobre los receptores CB1 y CB2, que están presentes principalmente en el cerebro e intervienen en muchos procesos, como el cognitivo o el procesamiento de las emociones”, explica Manuel Guzmán, presidente de la Sociedad Española de Investigación sobre Cannabinoides (SEIC). Alcohol-most harmful recreational drug- cannabis the least

  A new  report published  in Scientific Reports, rates recreational drugs according to their toxicity, to many of you the surprise could be that cannabis sits at the very bottom of the list. But perhaps what is surprising is that alcohol is in first place as the recreational drug that does most harm to the body. The report states that alcohol is about 114 times more deadly than cannabis when using the model of exposure approach, this is a measurement that calculates a substances ratio of toxicological threshold and human intake. Alcohol, heroin, tobacco and cocaine were classed as ‘ high risk ’, ecstasy and meth were classed as ‘mediumrisk’.   For quite some time now it has been thought that the WHO have been debating what to do about cannabis. It seems that they may be about to act as some newly issued recommendations are calling for a change in the scheduling of cannabis, currently its is in the most restrictive WHO category but the report recommends that it should be placed in the least restrictive. The recommendation introduces the idea that CBD should not even be scheduled at all! What we are slowly beginning to see is an acceptance that the cannabis plant not only provides hours of pleasure for countless people from all parts but is actually incredibly beneficial. Hopefully, as legalisation and acceptance creeps into societies this will enable more research to be carried out, and the countless benefits that are going to be discovered.
